Phil was one of the founding members of Vio-lence(Who first went by the name of Death Penalty), playing lead guitar. He went on to form Torque with other members of Vio-lence in 1995, taking on lead vocals as well as guitar. Technocracy was his next band, releasing their self titled album in 2002.
He also ‘Philed’ in for the departed Ahrue for Machine Head’s 2002 Let Freedom Ring European Festival Tour. As is said on the Elegies DVD, he was going to call it a day after that and hang his guitar up on a good note, but decided his heart was in the music. He had some ‘personal shit’ to sort out first, but officially joined the band in 2003, & made his first official performance as lead axeman at the band’s secret show on October 17th 2003 under the name Imperium.
Although Phil joined the band pretty much in the middle of the recording of Through The Ashes Of Empires, he managed to contribute to a couple of songs, In The Presence Of My Enemies, Days Turn Blue To Gray and later co wrote the blistering ‘Seasons Wither’ which was recorded and released on the US version of Through The Ashes Of Empires. |
