At a time when the metal world was lacking in bands to worship along come Machine Head with their sixth full length studio album taking the band and their fans to a new level. Opening track ‘Clenching The Fists Of Dissent’ brings you in with the distant sound of the bass before the acoustic guitar flows in before all hell is unleashed for a ten minute plus wank fest for guitarists across the world as they unleash their feelings on war, ‘So Fight As One, Without A Fucking Gun’. Each track has a story of its own taking you on a journey with ‘Wolves’ paying tribute to their dedicated legion of followers that’s sure to be a fan favourite across the world when they go out on tour. Finishing off the album with the bonus track ‘Battery’ taken from the Kerrang cover album of ‘Master Of Puppets’ it just shows off how good ‘The Blackening’ is as ‘Battery’ fits perfectly on the album. Machine Head have provided the metal world with something to get excited about and they have made every other metal band out there sweat as they now know Machine Head are at the very top of the mountain. They have written a truly brilliant metal album but with enough melody to make you remember every song and be able to sing along. This is truly the album of their career. Review by Alun Williams |
