From day one with Machine Head, one thing has always been clear - this band is all about the live show. Whether it was their first show in Oakland with a house full of people or at airfield in europe in front of 130,000 screaming fans, playing live is what makes this band tick. This is what these guys live for. Live is why Machine Head is. Some bands look at touring and playing live as necessary evils that go hand in hand with making albums. Others look at it as a way to connect with people that listen to the music they create. Machine Head definitely falls into the second category. The desire is to make people feel it, not just hear it. The true test of a song is its impact live. Does it generate emotion in a crowd? This is a test every MH song has to pass. Writing a song and recording it in the sterile environment of a studio is one thing. But making that song grab and move people live is completely another. This is the desired result, fueling the audience until they explode and then feeding on that energy, giving and getting it back. There is nothing else like it. That is why this album was recorded. It is a chronicle of the bands life, a window into the history of their music. It is a thanks for all theamazing tours and it is a harbinger of things to come.
